Issue 4: July 2020
Nonfiction: 172 words
By Clare MacQueen

Editor’s Choice Award: Issue 4

This issue’s ECA was selected from a list of ten finalists, which in turn were chosen from about 75 works that appear in MacQ-4—not counting the nine “Quink” stories and poems. Much gratitude (and a small cash prize of $100 USD) to Robert L. Dean, Jr. for this heart-wrenching ekphrastic poem:

Hands [with Gay Pasley’s photograph of Sister Mary Frances, protester]

Egress [micro-fiction] by Heather Bourbeau

Naming the Phenomenon [essay] by Jack Cooper [with art by MaRco Elliott]

Conquistadores [prose poem] by Laine Cunningham

Empty chair, bare tree [haiga], with photograph by Lucas Dumrauf and poem by Gary S. Rosin
