• Castle in the Clouds, originally known as the Lucknow Estate and now an historical museum, is a 6300-acre mountain-top property famous for its panoramic views of the Lakes Region and the Ossipee Mountains in New Hampshire. Constructed in 1913-14, the Lucknow Mansion was ahead of its time, featuring cutting-edge technology of the day including a central vacuuming system, ammonia refrigeration, and three needle showers.

• Carla Schwartz’s “Shower Adjustments at the Castle in the Clouds” immediately intrigued me, since the poem’s experimental and rare in at least two ways. First, as a pantoum with lines only one word long, a structure I don’t recall seeing before. And second, as a pantoubun, an experimental variation of the formal-verse haibun—and how perfect to end with a monoku. This poem is the first pantoubun I’ve encountered, and I’m simply thrilled to publish it here in MacQ. Thank you, Carla!
