Ellipsis as Grief
I’m seeking punctuation as I walk through the forest ... an oak, a hemlock, pine trees ... but the understory ... leaf mulch and beneath ... insects, microbes, mycelium ... from death, life arises ... here, a lady slipper its gossamer sheath ... maples feed ... off decay their dropped spring flowers ... then leaf out ... green so vivid ... after the rain, sun ... water drips from leaves to ground ... drip, drip ... my mother ... drip, drip ... my father ... drip ... I walk on ... thunderheads raining my parents’ dust (and) on and on

Carla Schwartz lives half the time in the greater Boston area, and half the time on an unbridged island in Lake Winnipesaukee. She is passionate about cycling, Nordic skiing, hiking, fresh water long-distance swimming, paddle-boarding, pedal kayaking, reading, and gardening.
