Thoughts of Bodily Integrity on My Way to School

You’re just a pedestrian, says the truck
says the no-turn-on-red right-turning car
the what-red-light bike
the who-needs-sidewalks road commission
the governor
the president
the river
the willow
the whistling hawk
the sequined shawl of snow
the sun on my braid
the perfect vee of geese
Pedestrian! Pedestrian! they honk
I watch the traffic helicopter plow across their pretty path
