A grand piano 
stands alone on a sandbar, 
as if on a stage, 

still caught in the spotlight 
after a recital. 

Almost, you can hear 
echoes of an audience—
a swell of murmurs, 

laughter, fading into 
silence, this sea of questions, 

this tide of wanting 
chords, breaking like waves again, 
something to tell you 

nothing is over yet, 
the song still continues. 

But you hear only 
blood, rushing in your ear, 
crossing in your mind—

interference patterns, 
ghosts and possibilities, 

the scuttling of the unseen.
