leaving the doctor 

an old man takes 
his time crossing the street 

while I bide mine 
as Debussy 
arabesques on the radio

the best part of waking up 

the handless first sip of coffee 
over my kitchen counter 

mug filled to brim 
and my body a question mark 
slurping exclamation points
