MacQueen’s Quinterly: Knock-your-socks-off Art and Literature
Issue 34: Sept. 2026
Prose Poem: 147 words
By Jonathan Yungkans

Jesus / a bronze statue / sleeps lying on his side on a park bench / navy-blue blanket pulled over His face / the peace / which passes understanding roars past / in a yellow Camaro / some passers-by gasp / on seeing large square nail holes in His feet sticking out from the blanket / sometimes peace drives a death-horse-white Corvette all fiberglass and horsepower / told Jesus is a bronze statue some people ask / “then why is His body odor so strong” / “why does He even have body odor” / drenched with moonlight / a smashed Chevy pick-up pools / drips milk-white liquid moon onto the street / some claim they see the blanket over Him rise and fall / inside the gleaming truck bed are white air-conditioning filter panels / bubble-gum pink metal freon tanks / an aluminum ladder sturdy enough to climb toward heaven and back / some sit and pray at the statue’s feet / have sworn He listens / sometimes weeps
