In the beginning there are piles of leaves you jump into and ponds you dive into and waves you run into and roads you pedal down as fast as your legs can pump. There are cookies you disappear without a trace of crumb and later bottles of wine, some expensive and some as cheap as you can find. There are people you kiss and some you just pucker up for. There’s work to be done and work to put off. Mountains to climb and others to skirt. Trains to catch and taxis to hail. Friends to hold on to and friends to let go. There are doors you open and doors you lock. Shadows you avoid and shade you seek. There are things you remember and things you don’t. And despite all the hearts you’ve stolen or broken, the end still comes as a surprise.
