Once in a tire swing at a playground, in defiance of your childhood 
   memories. 
Once in your laundry room, deep in the smell of sweat and Tide 
   detergent. 
Once in the backseat of a car while his parents were driving. 
Once backstage at her band’s show. Once backstage at my band’s show. 
Once in the dark in the woods. There were three of us and I didn’t 
   know who owned what hands. 
Once in the bathroom, at my place of work, during a shift. 
Once at a truck stop off the I-95. Once playing truth or dare. Once 
   during a flood. 
Once in an abandoned grain silo. 
Once on the 30th floor of Town Hall in Buffalo, NY, when the building 
   was closed for repairs. 
Once in Mexico City during Day of the Dead. 
Once under the overpass on Exchange street. 
Once in an alley during a protest. Once in a hot air balloon. 
Once in the parking lot of a hospital, dry tears on my face. 
Once in one of the Newport Mansions, right under the security camera. 
Once on the beach in Carolina at midnight in February. 
Once in a cemetery, incantations on my lips in the wild abandon of 
   June in the witching hour. 
Once at a crematorium. Grey dust on my hands.

is a writer and visual artist living in Manchester, New Hampshire.
