Hotel pool, almost lunchtime. Guy three chaises to my left talking loudly on his phone. I pull my hat down over my ears. Wish I’d remembered to bring my noise-canceling headphones. He’s recounting a recent therapy session.
Went well. Parts he didn’t get, but “she” seemed happy enough with it.
Pool music blasting. He probably thinks I can’t hear.
It always gets down to communication, he says. She doesn’t feel heard.
