It’s May, and over here
in Nova Scotia,
the days are longer,
coats are lighter,
heads are hatless.
Not today.
Today the north wind
sings an aria at forty-four mph.
A few weeks ago crocuses
painted the front lawns
with white, red, purple.
Last weekend hyacinths
and daffodils danced for us.
Today the arctic wind.
