Seasoning
Spring sprang her warning—Summer is rearming, bringing sweltering days and spelter-smelting ways. Sending us helter- skelter, seeking shade, cooling shelter from July’s hell, August’s jolting road-tar- melter. Sun-crisped shoulders shrieking, sweat, it seems, always pouring. Prayers of pleading, prayers imploring relief from the arc-welder blinding sun: Compel her to holster her smoking gun, send her singing a belter of Autumn’s returning—welter of leaves, a breeze to cool our yearning. This yearly reaffirming —that discerning seasons are truly still turning, temperatures really are reversing —proofs of Summer’s long-anticipated adjourning.
