The Four Cardinal Virtues as Models
in a Vanity Fair Photo Shoot

Fortitude wears a gold lamé miniskirt and holds a stuffed, anatomically correct heart. Her heart. Justice weighs in naked on a bathroom scale with a double-edged sword. She wears fashionable sunglasses that are so big, they hide half of her face—making her unrecognizable and blind. Temperance is swaddled in a yellow raincoat, slick as a banana peel. She slowly pours out water from a blue pitcher in such a measured way that clouds will forget their job description. And, Prudence, dear Prudence. She wears a tailored suit, white shirt, black tie, and holds a bank statement. Is it yours or your ex-husband’s? Being prudent, she’s not saying a word.
