ants spelunking 
in orange trumpet 
vine blooms 

a hummingbird 
pauses the day 

to inspect me

I’m weeding and near my hand 
a dime-sized dirt lid tilts up 
atop a spider’s front half 

we look at each other 

then it’s back under 
like nothing happened
