—After Luke 2:10, and the painting Le Monde Visible (1962) by René Magritte*
“... I bring you good news of a great joy which will come to all the people.” was it a joy for us since his voice whose gust could snap a mast clean in two would be gone or a joy for him a rock motionless on a white linen tablecloth facing sea and moon ready either to become sand and pass through an unseen hourglass onto a beach or to sail with no warning word on a wooden table waiting for the tide
