MacQueen’s Quinterly: Knock-your-socks-off Art and Literature
Issue 30: Sept. 2025
Poem: 56 words
By Daryl Scroggins

Cold Storage

I find myself feeling sorry
for lost electronic memory.

So many dead people still
backed up in the cloud.

So many defunct
email accounts.

Server heaven: gates and
hallways in infinite regress.

Thumb drives in landfills.
Much more forgotten

than found in the flaming
edge of living thought.

All atoms, by now, flash memory.
