Estate Sale

At the full bird colonel’s estate sale Roxy falls in love with a pearl ring she can’t afford.

“You’ve got a million rings,” says Sammy.

“Not this one.”

“Summer’s coming. We need a new A/C. Why are we even here?”

“Fine, let’s roll.”

A security guard built like a floor safe blocks the door as they try to leave. “I saw what I saw.”

Sammy stares at Roxy. “You didn’t.”

Her smile goes smeary.
