A Mohave ground squirrel stands on the same rock
day after day, broadcasting his alarm call.
Three ravens fly in from street-side power poles,
squawking and scuffling on the neighbor’s roof.
A bobcat walks past the living room window,
unhurried, as though no humans live here.
That wildfire still burns across the valley,
containment stalled at 65 percent. The wind picks up.
On the other side of the world, a glacier gives way.
