hope

look the sun! it is rising!
my son says from the car seat
as we drive by the boatyard
where the puget sound
rubs against the road

yes! it is gold and silver
i respond he smiles
and nods

many days i have pointed out
the sun setting on our way home
asking him if it is pink or orange
the answer is always
pink!

yes pink! isn’t it beautiful?
and we notice how the sun reaches
higher in the sky each day

as we drive i see him eating
the glory and the shadow
his body a vessel brimming
and he chooses to speak
about the light

thank god he chooses
to speak about
the light
